Aguascalientes in central Mexico.
The city of Aguascaliente is located in the center
of mexico, approximately midway between
the cities of Mexico City, Guadalajara,and Monterrey.
At one time it was an important center for silver
mining.
Some of the local dishes include a steamed
lamb casserole known as "birrria",
a special Aguascalientes-style mole,
chicken in wine sauce, pickled hides, and
roasted goat (cabrito).
Aguascalientes is also famous for its mineral baths,
and for being popular a honeymoon destination
because of it is an important center for the
Cathlic faith. the city is rich in colonial
period architecture.
Grapes are grown in this region, and
brandy and sweet liqueurs are well-known products
of this area. Other products made in
this area include pottery, textiles, tiles, and
majolicas. Another industry
in this area is cattle ranching.
Nissan also has manufacturing operations
in the Aguascalientes area.
Aguascalientes was founded as a mining
settlement in 1575 and it became a town
in 1661. it is the capital of the small Mexican
state of Aguascalientes.
Aguascalientes is a dry region.
San Marcos National Fair
The largest festival in Mexico
takes place in Aguascaliente every spring, in April and May.
Nearly 7 million people attend that festival every year.
Pilgrimage of the Assumption
Another important event in that city is
the Pilgrimage of the Assumption on August 15th,
which features a parade, dancing, and other activities.
